Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Reliability Engineer to work at our key client's Headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.  This is a long-term contract position that could go full-time if desired

The team is responsible for platform configuration management, capacity management, site reliability, application support, monitoring, and Tier 2 incident response. They are heavily invested in efforts to ensure the health and reliability of the entire infrastructure with a strong focus on load testing. With a cloud first mentality they are continuously updating and migrating legacy systems into AWS. The team is also responsible for planning and executing integrations into complex data center and cloud environments in an efficient, secure, scalable, reliable and cost-effective manner. This includes any content delivery systems, hardware configuration, custom software implementation, cloud systems design, performance and process improvement, and systems documentation.

This position will be heavily focused on working with AWS and on a cloud migration from a Data Center environment to AWS.

Ideal candidates will possess the following knowledge and experience:

  • Know how to use containers
  • Be knowledgeable with the AWS suite of products
  • Experience with Packer
  • Know how routing and caching works - Varnish, Memcached etc.  
  • Have more of a focus on system design and understanding which ties into understanding where bottle necks and choke points are and how we monitor those
  • Strong coding in Python, Ruby, Java, or Golang (any one of those)
  • Experience with Terraform (but Chef or Salt would also suffice) 
  • Monitoring tools like Datadog, New Relic, and Grafana
  • Nice to have an understanding of lower network protocols like http, DNS   


  • 6 years of experience in software engineering or DevOps roles 
  • Expertise in configuring, deploying, tuning, and supporting web frameworks at scale on Linux and container platforms 
  • Experience with systems design – you should be able to design systems given constraints, defend your decisions, point out bottlenecks, and explain the tradeoffs 
  • Intermediate to advanced coding skills with Java, Python, Ruby, or Go (Golang) – you should know Object Oriented Design, common data structures, algorithms that go along with them, and how to test your code 
  • Firm understanding of Amazon Web Services-based infrastructure and management including, but not limited to Route 53, ALB, EC2, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, Lambda, etc. 
  • Experience creating machine images with Packer 
  • Experience working with message queue technologies such as RabbitMQ or Kafka 
  • Experience with web caching and load balancing technologies such as HAProxy, Varnish, Memcached, and Nginx 
  • Detailed knowledge of core internet and networking protocols including, but not limited to TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP 
  • Experience creating dashboards and alerts with monitoring and metrics platforms like Datadog, New Relic, and Grafana 
  • Experience working with Terraform, Chef, Salt, or other configuration management tools 
  • Experience working with Git 
  • Experience managing site content and configuration via CDN providers

Required Education:       

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent
