Job Description

Through our partnership with ICON Consultants, we have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Support Specialist I in Dallas, TX 75235. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire role paying $18-$23/hour.

Experience & Requirements:
  • Must possess EXCELLENT customer service skills.
  • Technician must have 3 years experience supporting both the Windows 7/10 AND Mac platforms. 
  • Technical certifications and/or IT education a plus


SUMMARYWorks under minimal supervision to provide routine technical assistance to UT Southwestern faculty and staff with respect to personal computing hardware and software, computer networking, and/or telecommunications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance, testing, and repair with respect to computer hardware and software problems, networking, and/or telecommunications.
  • Diagnoses and repairs routine computer related problems and/or refers complex problems to Technical Support Specialist II or III or other technical professional.
  • Installs software, personal computers, printers, and other peripherals as directed or requested by users.
  • Assists in making recommendations for modifications or additions to personal computer systems, hardware components, and software applications; assists in identifying associated costs.
  • Troubleshoots routine technical problems and supports university Help Desk as required.
  • Assists in design of web page text and visual content, navigational links, and page layout.
  • Consults with users to determine web needs and recommends solutions.
  • Assists in writing code using HTML, Dynamic HTML, Java, Javascript, Visual Basic, Perl, or Common Gateway Interface (CGI).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEHigh School graduation and four (4) years experience in computer environment, including at least two (2) years experience providing technical computer support to customers, are required.If area of employment requires use of a University-owned vehicle, employee will be required to possess a valid Texas Drivers License, pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check, and complete drivers training (or van training, if applicable), in accordance with UTS Policy 157, appendix B.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Work requires knowledge of DOS based and/or Macintosh based personal computing software and hardware and/or knowledge of electronics and microprocessors.
  • Work requires personal contact with faculty and staff to provide technical support of computer hardware and software packages and resolve variety of routine problems.
  • Work requires phone contact with hardware and/or software vendors.
  • Work requires ability to lift computer and printer equipment.
  • Work requires interpretation of policy and application of procedures or practices to work problems.
