We are currently looking for a Visual Designer in the Houston, Texas area paying $40.00 an hour. 

Location: Houston, TX 77002

Pay Rate: $40

Contract: 1/14/2019 - 6/30/2019

Job Description:

The Visual Web Designer is an overall design generalist with a focus on interaction design who is responsible for contributing to the overall visual aesthetics of web properties. This position is responsible for producing high-quality visual design standards on web properties as well as the implementation of Web property brand guidelines. This role is purely focused on digital and does not entail print design.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following duties satisfactorily:

  • Produce high-quality visual designs and click-through prototypes with strong attention to detail
  • Adhere to overall visual standards/patterns in an effort to conform to a unified design language
  • Comfortable hashing out big-picture workflow and strategy as well as prototyping detailed visual and interaction execution
  • Be part of a culture that values 'design criticism'
  • Evangelize good design practices and values across other teams
  • Engage with business partners and executives on design reviews
  • Participate in workshops with other teams and business units to determine requirements
  • Assist in leading a group to consensus
  • Provide the intellectual basis of design discussions (principles, themes, values)
  • Engage with products that need a leader to shape a design vision
  • Ability to iterate and deliver designs with a firm deadline
  • Knowledge of mobile design standards
  • Proficiency with leading design software such as Sketch, Invision, Marvel, Principal and the Adobe Creative Suite

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the field of graphic design is preferred
  • Must have 2+ years of relevant digital experience
  • HFI (Human Factors International) certification is a plus.
  • A great portfolio with recent desktop and mobile work to show
  • Must be strong in both visual and interaction design and understands the need for good usability
  • Strong visual design skills (including layout, typography, iconography, color theory and use of imagery)
  • Possess the ability to communicate design concept ideas by creating low and high fidelity prototypes with applications such as Marvel
  • A brand ambassador that ensures the look and feels carries throughout internal and external projects
  • Possess expertise in using Adobe Creative Cloud and has a basic understanding of HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. Is not a coder, but understands the capabilities and limitations of the web
  • Aware of current design trends for desktop and mobile devices.
  • Has worked with, or on a User Experience team before, understands the methodologies and best practices
  • Adapt design strategies to take advantage of user research, analytics, and client feedback
  • Capable of being a thought leader who can help drive and refine the design language and experience of WM applications
  • Strong attention to detail, high-quality standards and a true passion for design
  • Ability to learn from and be mentored by more senior designers
  • Comfortable working on MacOS
  • Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:
  • Experience working in an e-commerce environment
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Experience in icon design
  • Experience in designing iOS app experiences from start to finish as a visual and UI designer with familiarity with iOS development
  • Experience in documenting design standards and creating style guides
